Coincidence or Destiny?

Do you believe in destiny...or perhaps the power of undeniable coincidence? What about this: Boy meets girl at the airport as they wait to board the plane. As they get to talking, turns out they were in the same kindergarten class...and they're going to the same concert out of state...and they're staying at the same hotel. Coincidence? Destiny?

No, probably not, right? Maybe to you, everything is just a game of probability and something miraculous is bound to happen at some point. Or maybe the world is designed with poetic justice, and every intricate detail of your day was carefully created with intention.

But what about those unplanned moments that aren't so cute? The job layoffs, the car breakdowns, the flip-you-on-your-head kind of days? Were those planned, God forbid? Or perhaps there's something, or someone out there that can see the bigger picture. Who knows, perhaps your car failed you to protect you from an unthinkable fate, or so your long-lost soulmate can pull over and help you kick-start it again...

I met my husband on "accident". I was responsible for organizing my college campus Greek Olympics, so basically I had one job. After carefully setting the date and informing the entire Greek life of the events and location, we were ready. Except for one thing: I apparently didn't book the venue. When we got there, there was another campus event (a kickball game) going on. To put it lightly, I was mortified, as everyone from East Jesus and their mom was going to arrive any minute without a place to host our events.

As I considered my options: (1. Fall over and play dead. 2. Cry 3. Play it cool and try to find someone friendly to help.) I went with super-scary option number three. I nervously approached a small group standing to the side and asked if they wouldn't mind sharing the space, fully expecting them to laugh at me. Instead, they kindly invited us to join them. From there, we added another event to our Greek Olympics. Kickball. My husband was there playing that day with that generous organization, but at the time he was a complete stranger.

I often think back to that moment and how that defining "mistake" lead me to my future family. I have had many of these pivotal moments happen to me, and I've learned to listen to the world when things don't go "my way". Perhaps because there is a better way, and each little moment is like a brick paver guiding you to your next big thing.
